Puzzle Break!

When was the last time you started a puzzle? And the last time you completed one?

I woke up this past Saturday morning with the unusual urge to do a puzzle! I can’t remember the last time I had a puzzle, let alone actually putting one together. Last week was entirely stressful and I needed to relax and exercise my brain in a way that did not involve an in-depth assessment of the situation… or electronics. I came to this reasoning as I contemplated why, all of a sudden, I wanted to do a puzzle.

Anyway, I went to Walgreens and got a family pack box containing six puzzles ranging from 200-500 pieces and a big bottle of red wine.

I didn’t time myself because I really wanted to enjoy the simplicity of an activity that I’ve been so far removed from.

While I was completing the puzzle, I was amazed at how the brain can recognize shapes and fractured images and bring them together into a coherent picture. These are the things our little minds used to thrive on before online games and social media. Things we can do without worrying about a battery dying or a power outage or even having a person on the other end.

I only completed one, but I intend to do all six. A form of stress-relief without the mind-numbing screeching of reality TV (which I still enjoy, by the way).

I haven’t been reading. That’s still a luxury I’m only able to enjoy when I’m low on stress (which is not lately), but, when I get back to it, you’ll be the first to know!

Happy… puzzle-ing?
