Tomi Adeyemi: Children of Virtue & Vengeance

My last full read of the year! I read Blood & Bone earlier this year and loved it so I couldn’t wait for the second book in this series to come out.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance was released December 3rd, a week later I picked it up at my local library. I was very excited about it and I was not disappointed. Correction, I was not disappointed in the book, I was very disappointed in a couple of the characters!

For some reason Amari annoyed my spirit throughout the ENTIRE book! I felt like she was trying to co-opt a culture that was not hers to begin with, she was bratty and selfish and just generally got on my nerves! One of the girls in my book club dubbed me an Amari-hater and I’m okay with that.

Of course there were some sad deaths in the book—won’t tell you who—and I did tear up a little bit towards the end. I have my theories about the end of this book, but none of us will know where our favorite band of Maji/Kosidan/Mercenary heroes are headed until book 3 comes out. We’ve got a long wait, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it in the end.

If you haven’t read Blood & Bone, pick it up, then get Virtue & Vengeance. GMA said it’s like Game of Thrones meets Black Panther but with magic. I’m not sure I’d classify it in that way, but it’s good nonetheless.

If you’ve read either of these two, let me know your thoughts. If not, go ahead and read them then let me know your thoughts!

Happy Reading!

Christine
